![]() ![]() Platforming sections aren't tight enough, you'll find yourself stumbling into scenery, and things get a bit too shambolic when you start sprinting. You'll take a beating and be incapable of doing anything, and it always ends in frustration.Įven during the rest of the game you'll find the controls a little too sloppy. The fact that you'll mostly be changing perspective during fight sequences makes it even more annoying. You'll find yourself fumbling the crossover time and time again, missing button presses, and shoving the camera in the wrong direction. It's with the switching that the problems of the game become most apparent. There are spiders that entangle your foes, lightning bugs that electrocute and charge switches, and mouthy monsters that bite anything that comes too close to them. You can have two different critters equipped at the same time, and each has its own special use. Third person is best for exploration, giving you a wider view of your surroundings, and first person lets you fire your weapon.Ĭrossbow ammo comes in the shape of little animals that you capture around the world. You can switch freely from first to third person with the tap of a button. You're armed with your fists, your head, and a crossbow with multiple ammo types, and you need to capture varmints alive or dead to earn as much cash as possible. The game mixes first and third person adventuring, casting you as a bounty hunter in an arid world that takes its cues from the wild west. But if you're not lucky enough to have one you'll find yourself disappointed. You can use an MFi controller if you've got one, and it makes the whole game that much more palatable. There's a brilliant game underneath it all, one that's brimming with great ideas and real heart, but it can't shine because you're too busy struggling with a combination of touch, tap, and tilt controls to get everything working. It's an average game that's hamstrung by a lack of concessions to the touchscreen control system.Įverything is just a bit too fiddly, a bit too cumbersome, and it leads to frustrating issues all across the board. I think this is a great game to add to your collection and strongly recommend it.Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath is a great game. There's lots of little funny statements from the characters in the game and there is a little swearing but not enough in my opinion to warrant the iron fist of restriction. As you progress you find out a little more about a secret the Stranger keeps and take on an unintended foe for the greater good. This is not an easy game either and it's hard to get some of them alive all of the time. Some sections of the game are so gorgeous and colorful that you kind of sit there and look at all of the detail the developers obviously put a lot of time into for the player to enjoy. After you have your target trapped or dead a greenish yellow electric beam shoots out of your wrist cross bow and you suck them up for the bounty like a Ghostbuster. They're used to lure, slow down, trap, immobilize or explode. The cool thing about this game also is the fact that you use cute little critters of the land as weapons and shoot them from your wrist cross bow. The'ye worth more alive but they won't turn you away empty handed for turning in their lifeless corpse. Traveling from town to town you go after mean ruthless outlaws bringing them in alive or dead. You start off the game by collecting bounties which are soon revealed to be for a certain medical procedure that will ensure your survival. It's a western set in the Oddworld universe where you play the "Stranger". This personally has to be one of the BEST games I have ever played. ![]()
